The first medical practitioner to die in Kenya of Covid-19 had an underlying medical condition but had not known about it until she was admitted to hospital.
The family of the late doctor, Dr. Doreen Adisa Lugaliki, 38, said their kin was diagnosed with diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) after she was admitted at Aga Khan University Hospital last Monday
The family has eulogized the health soldier as a great person. Adisa was married to Kituku Kinyae, who she wedded in 2007, and together they were blessed with two twin daughters
“My mother has saved people’s lives ever since I was born. So the fact that hers was taken away by Covid-19 leaves me in a faze,” her daughters wrote.
Dr. Lungaliki will be laid to rest today in Bungoma an event that will be attended by 15 people from the family as recommended by the ministry of health
“You were to wear a beautiful white gown, rest at Lee Funeral Home, and have your makeup excellently done. We were to be in no hurry to bury you,” Dr. Lungaliki’s sister Carol said.
“We were to take at least 10 days before we laid you to rest. We were to mourn you the Maragoli Style, complete with Isukuti …to dance to reggae and preferably get some nice mix from DJ Mo. That is how you were to exit. Not like this. I am sorry Ady.” she added.

The family said Dr. Lugaliki’s condition deteriorated after testing positive for Covid-19 on Wednesday and then transferred to the ICU.
Her family added that she succumbed to complications arising from the Covid-19.
According to the Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentista Union, Lugaliki contracted the deadly virus from a colleague who had also contracted it from a patient.
