A light aircraft, Cessna with registration number 5YBWE crash landed at the Nairobi National Park on Wednesday mid morning near the Southern by-pass
According to the Langa’ta OCPD Monica Kimani, the aircraft developed mechanical problems shortly after taking off from Wilson Airport.
Kimani however said that none of the passengers was seriously injured during the incident.
“None of them has been injured, just slight bruises and they have been airlifted by the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS), and taken to Wilson Airport for medical checkup,”she told the media.
The passengers included the pilot and three trainees.
A motorcycle rider who witnessed the accident said that he saw the aircraft flying at a very low height before it eventually crashed.
“I saw the plane flying at a very low altitude and at first, my passenger and I thought that it was conducting a patrol around the park. As it approached the plane made a sharp turn and overturned, crashing on the ground. Shortly after, three passengers onboard managed to get out of the plane and sat on top of it,” he narrated.
Other sources called upon motorists to avoid the route because a traffic snarl up was building up around the area. A fire fighter truck and a KWS chopper were dispatched to the scene.
