Ex-Garissa County official who has been in a coma for the last 22 months after being shot in the head has been award 15.7 million after winning a case at the Court of Appeal.
The Court of Appeal endorsed an Sh15.7 million compensation package to the former Garissa County minister Idriss Mukhtar and his two colleagues who were sacked from the county government.
In a case that set a precedence that appointees of a county boss cannot be fired by the governor at his/her peril, a three-judge bench sitting ruled that Mr. Idriss and his two former colleagues should each receive an Sh15.7 million that was awarded by the Employment Court in 2016.
The Sh15.7 million is the inclusion of one year plus benefits including gratuity accumulated over their period of employment as CECs.
Mr. Idris, a former CEC for Youth, Sports, Trade, Investments, Enterprise Development and Cooperatives, and Mr. Mukhtar Bulale, who was in charge of Water and Environment and Salah Yakub Farah, who was in charge of Energy and Tourism, had sued the county Government after their dismissal.
