Tongaren Member of Parliament Eseli Simiyu and his Kanduyi counterpart Wafula Wamunyinyi have officially dumped Ford Kenya.
The MPs are now members of the Democratic Action Party-Kenya that is associated with the Defence CS Eugene Wamalwa.
The party’s first National Delegates Conference is currently underway at the Bomas of Kenya has seen Wamunyinyi get elected as the party leader and Eseli as the Secretary General.
In the past, Eseli and Wamunyinyi had attempted to assume the leadership of Ford Kenya from Bungoma senator Moses Wetang’ula, a move that was unsuccessful hence their decision to quit.
“Members have agreed that we shall join a new vehicle, which we will be unveiling on December 14th when we shall be holding our National Delegates Conference (NDC),” Wamunyinyi was recently quoted.
On his side, Eseli said that Ford Kenya did not serve their purpose citing frustrations from the judicial system while ruling on the party’s internal disputes.
“We summoned all our County Chairpersons and they agreed to support me. We are tired, and it is time we found our way out. I will give you a clear roadmap on December 14th,” Eseli said.
The party supports the Azimio La Umoja movement and has endorsed Raila Odinga’s candidature ahead of the coming general elections.
DAP-K was formed on June 13, 2021 by CS Wamalwa’s allies and was only officially launched on Tuesday.
Most of the party members are those who have defected from Ford Kenya. The party has been seen as a rival for the Musalia Mudavadi led ANC and Ford Kenya
