Blow To Ford Kenya As Deputy Party Leader Defects To ODM

Date:

Moses Wetang’ula’s party Ford Kenya has suffered a set back after the deputy party leader ditched it for ODM.

Richard Onyonka was received by ODM party leader Raila Odinga at the Chungwa house where expressed his intention of contesting for the Kisii senatorial seat in the coming general elections.

The Kitutu Chache Member of Parliament was elected on a Ford Kenya ticket but said his political journey with Odinga began long ago when they were arrested together during the Moi era.

“When Raila was being apprehended after the 1982 coup attempt, I was also apprehended. I never slept safely listening to him being walked away at night because we thought that they would finish him,” Onyonka said.

He described Odinga as a person he greatly respects saying that he will only retire from politics when he is elected president.

“This is a man I have been waiting for to become president then I can retire. We will work together with the team that is elected and we shall not defect from the party again,” he assured.

“We pray that God gives you the energy and the strength to become the president of the country because I believe in you, in what you say and what you talk about,” he added.

Samuel Omwando and Cynthia Kerubo who had left ODM allegedly over misunderstandings during the party preliminaries also returned to the party.

“These people who have come here are not jokers… We will not leave ODM again,” Onyonka reiterated.

Bobasi MP innocent Obiri has taken over as Ford Kenya’s deputy party leader.
