Former 1500m world athletic champion Elijah Manangoi has been slapped with a two-year ban for violating world anti doping rules.
The ban was issued by the Athletic Integrity Unit (AIU) over what they termed as “whereabouts failures” on the side of Manangoi. This latest news is a huge blow to the athlete since he will miss the oncoming 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
The 27-year-old will now have to forego all his competitive wins as from 22nd December 2019 when the ban became to effect.
So grave are the repercussions that Manangoi will have to forfeit any medals, titles, appearance money, points prizes and all the benefits.

He joins high profiled Kenyan athletes who have faced the ban due to breaking doping rules. Some of the Athletes include: 2016 Olympic marathon champion Jemimah Sumgong, Chicago Marathon winner Rita Jeptoo and the 2008 1500M Olympic Champion Asbel Kiprop.
