A 31-year old man in dire need of heart transplant was removed from the transplant list for not being vaccinated against Covid-19.
According to a report by Daily mail, DJ Ferguson was denied the life saving opportunity by Boston Brigham and Women’s Hospital.
The father of two has a hereditary heart condition that causes his lungs and heart to fill with blood and fluid.
According to the hospital, Ferguson was removed from the list because all patients requiring transplant need to be vaccinated.
“All transplant recipients need to get the vaccine in order to create both the best chance for successful operation and also the patient’s survival after transplantation,” the hospital said.
His father however said that getting vaccinated is kind of against his basic principles and that his son ‘doesn’t believe in it.’
“I think my boy is fighting pretty damn courageously and he has integrity and principles he really believes in and that makes me respect him all the more… It’s his body. It’s his choice,” said David, Ferguson’s father.
The Boston hospital claims that the Covid vaccine requirement is common at many medical center’s throughout the country.
In another incident, a hospital in Virginia denied a 42-year old man, seeking a kidney transplant, a place on the active transplant list for not being vaccinated against Covid.
42-year old Shamgar Connors together with his wife, who is a nurse, decided not to get vaccinated after the entire family suffered from the virus last year.
“You may have had delta, and that may not protect you against the omicron variant, which is what we’re seeing now. So, our policy is that in order to have people active on the transplant list and get a transplant, you need to be fully vaccinated,” the father of two was told by the UVA hospital doctor.
