The special sitting in parliament on Wednesday was halted for a moment when nominated MP David Sankok’s crutches went missing.
The MP raised the issue before the house forcing the Deputy Speaker Moses Cheboi, who was presiding over the sitting, to stop the proceedings and direct the sergeant at arms to find them.
Cheboi however reprimanded Sankok for not reporting the matter on time and asked him to mention the person he thought would have taken the crutches.
“The matter raised by Hon Sankok is very serious… What is surprising is that Hon Sankok you are seated there all the time. If you have lost your crutches, you should obviously have the person in mind who has taken your crutches,” Cheboi said.
It emerged that Embakasi East MP Babu Owino was responsible for hiding the crutches and he admitted to it.
Cheboi criticized the lawmaker for his actions and asked him to hand them back. He also demanded that he apologizes for derailing the house proceedings while a section of lawmakers urged the speaker to punish him.
“Hon Babu Owino you should probably take the crutches back if you are the one who took them,” Cheboi said.
Babu apologized to Sankok and even shared a light moment.
“Hon Speaker, Hon Sankok does not need the legs (crutches) as at now… I apologize,” he said as members of the house burst into laughter.
The lawmaker took the crutches during the debate on the Amendment of the political bill.
