Deputy President William Ruto was quick to express his excitement on how his running mate Rigathi Gachagua performed during the Deputy Presidential debate on Tuesday July 19 evening at Catholic University of East Africa.
Gachagua faced Martha Karua of Azimio la Umoja-OKA in the heated debate with each party trying to explain why their teams are best suited to take over government after the forthcoming general elections.
Through a tweet, Ruto congratulated him while advising him not to focus on what the media was saying about him. He added that the Mathira MP had been able to convince Kenyans about his leadership skills, something that will help Kenya Kwanza win the general elections.
“Congratulations Rigathi Gachagua my very able running mate. Kenyans are confident that in you we have a seasoned, passionate and focused leader to help us steer Kenya kwanza to victory and the nation to prosperity. We thank almighty God na ubarikiwe saaana. Never mind the media,” Ruto said.
On the other hand, Gachagua was however not contended so much with the debate, because he was not able to highlight most of the plans that Kenya Kwanza has in a bid to address issues that are affecting Kenyans.
“I am happy, we got a chance to speak to Kenyans but I am not contended because we wanted to a chance to speak on issues affecting Kenyans like the economy, health, housing, public debt but we didn’t get a chance, we were told all the questions but we spend so much time on one or two questions,” Gachagua said after the debate.
His competitor was however pleased with how things had turned out during the debate.
“I think I have achieved my expectation, the debate went well, we debated without any chaos, it was okay,” Karua said.
Gachagua however impressed Kenyans with his performance. He had been underestimated but he came prepared and did utter non issues as some had anticipated that he would. Due to that, some even wondered if he was really the original Gachagua.
“Gachagua has changed people’s perception about him,” a netizen said while another added, “Rigathi Gachagua is a perfect example that we should never underestimate anyone in life,It’s not over until it’s over.”
