DP Ruto Addresses Supremacy Battle Between Anne Waiguru and Purity Ngirici

Date:

DP William Ruto was in Kirinyaga on Sunday to popularize his agendas in readiness for the coming general election.

This was the first time the DP was touring the county since governor Anne Waiguru joined his UDA party on October 26 after ditching Jubilee.

The DP, in company of Waiguru and Kirinyaga women rep Purity Ngirici, first attended a church service at the Kianyaga Anglican Church of Kenya before proceeding to a political rallies in parts of Kirinyaga including Kianyaga,Kutus and Kerugoya

It is in the public knowledge that Waiguru and Ngirici are at war since they are all eyeing the Kirinyaga gubernatorial seat. Waiguru’s move to join UDA has made Ngirici uneasy and she has been missing in most of Ruto’s rallies since then.

Speaking about the issue, DP Ruto asked the two leaders to fight fairly and let the voters decide who, among them, will be UDA’s flag bearer in the gubernatorial race. He however assured them that party nominations will be free and fair.

“I want to assure you  the people will decide who will be given which ticket. But I emphasize our UDA party will have free, fair, democratic and verifiable nominations, and it is the people who will decide,” Ruto declared.

Ruto invited both women to address the crowds but in Gichugu town, Ngirici was forced to cut short her speech after a number of youths began heckling at her. It is alleged that governor Waiguru was responsible for the incident.

Earlier on, supporters of the leaders faced each other outside the Anglican Church, with each group burning tyres and T-shirts belonging to their opponents. Police had to intervene to control the rowdy youths.

In a recent interview, Ngirici revealed that she had spent a fortune in popularizing UDA especially in Kirinyaga County but she now regrets it after the party betrayed her by openly supporting Waiguru.

“I popularised the UDA Party in Kirinyaga County. I convinced my people that UDA was the political outfit to join, and that Ruto was the man best-suited to take over from Uhuru Kenyatta in 2022. I also made them see the gaps in BBI, which was being championed by the President’s team,”
