Divers Who Saved Lives At River Enziu To Get Millions And Permanent Jobs

Date:

Divers who saved lives during Mwingi’s River Enziu tragedy are set to get permanent and pensionable jobsĀ  if the promise by Kitui governor Charity Ngilu is anything to go by.

Charity Ngilu while speaking during the requiem mass of the River Enziu victims noted that her county government will recognize the divers by employing and training them further to gain professional skills.

The requiem mass was held for the 33 victims who lost their lives during the tragedy. In attendance were also leaders from the area who called upon the responsible leaders to make sure that the bridge at River Enziu is well built.

‘I as a member of the county government will recognize and employ them as divers as well as train them so that they can be more skillful in order for them to continue working,” the Governor stated

ā€œI want to say personally as the leader of the region, we will reach out to all those involved. I have requested for all their names and they are about 30 men and we will follow up with them,ā€ Ngilu remarked.

She continued: ā€œOne of them called ā€˜Vampireā€™, I donā€™t know why but he retrieved so many bodies, even more than what the other teams were doing and you have also seen another here who also saved lives,ā€ she stated.

In the meantime, it emerged that the driver in the Mwingi bus tragedy was a victim of pressure from some impatient passengers who insisted that they were getting late.

A top source which spoke to Sonko News reporters in Mwingi revealed that theĀ  driver had waited for more than 2 hours with the hope that the water would reduce so that they could cross peacefully.

Further, the passengers had seen two more vehicles cross the accident scene and wondered why their own driver was reluctant to do the same.

As a result, some passengers who could not stomach camping there and being late insisted that they had to cross with others saying twendeni tu Mungu yuko.

ā€œOne of the survivors said the passengers are the ones who insisted, the driver told them he is not familiar with the bridge but wakakataa ati they are being late.ā€ Said a source.

ā€œWe are told the driver waited for more than 2 hours for the water to subside. The passengers became impatient bcoz they were getting late for the wedding. They put pressure on the driver and the driver gave in at last. Now u see what happened! Siku ikifika imefika. May their souls dance with the angels in Heaven.ā€ Added the source
