Wiper party leader Steven Kalonzo Musyoka is yet to go to court or write a letter to the Office of the Registrar of political parties seeking withdrawal from the Azimio coalition.
According to credible sources, Gideon Moi has been tasked by the Azimio leadership to manage Kalonzo Musyoka so that he stays.
This explains why the Wiper leader is yet to reject the appointment by Raila Odinga as the chief cabinet secretary because there are words that he may swallow his pride and take the position.
On Monday, the Baringo senator tried all he could to tame Kalonzo but all did not go well as scheduled. Moi had attended the Azimio event at the Kenyatta International Conference Center (KICC) before he later left for Statehouse.
Reports revealed that the Baringo senator was holed up in a meeting at Statehouse together with the opposition leader Raila Odinga, kalonzo Musyoka and president Uhuru Kenyatta.
The purpose of the meeting was to convince Musyoka to cancel his scheduled press conference where he was to make an important announcement. According to our sources, the meeting resolved that Kalonzo would be made the chief cabinet secretary but the Wiper leader was still reluctant to accept it.
Feeling somehow disappointed, he headed to the SKM command center in Karen together with Gideon Moi as he vowed to continue with his announcement. However, Sonko News has since established that Kalonzo Musyoka will likely join Azimio and the man meant to ensure that happens is the Baringo senator Gideon Moi.
Sources within Raila circles have also hinted that they will not appoint anyone else to replace Kalonzo Musyoka as the chief cabinet secretary because prior to the appointment, the Raila and Uhuru team believed that it was just a matter of time before Kalonzo’s anger evaporated.
Further, they argued that the Wiper boss cannot be cleared by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission to run because that would be against the law. Besides, they were convinced that Musyoka could not join Ruto having described Kenya Kwanza coalition as Kenya Kwisha on several occasions.
According to lawyer Steve Ogolla, the Wiper boss will not be allowed to vie because going by their Azimio-One Kenya Coalition Party, he already nominated Raila as its presidential flag bearer.
“Hon. Kalonzo Musyoka cannot lawfully be permitted to run for President. Wiper Party is part of Azimio-One Kenya Coalition Party. In short, Wiper already nominated Raila Odinga as its presidential flag bearer. They cannot have a second bite at the cherry.” Wrote Lawyer Steve Ogolla.
