Details Of How Kiambu Politician Grace Chania Murdered Her Husband In Cold Blood Before Reporting Him As Missing

Date:

Grace Chania, who unsuccessfully vied for the Kiambu Woman Rep in the August general elections is the prime suspect in the brutal murder of her husband George Mwangi.

Mwangi was found dead in Kieni forest, Gatundu North by Tea farm casual laborers with his body wrapped in a polythene bag.

The 58-year-old was murdered in cold blood and his wife later reported to the police that he was missing last Sunday through a phone call at 8 pm.

Investigations have however unraveled what transpired on the day he was last seen alive. Chania is believed to have been the mastermind behind Mwangi’s death because of his affair with his tenant.

The police believe that Chania was assisted by a new employee and several others to murder the father of her three children. whom she had been married to for the last 20 years.

Marital issues saw them live in separate homes. Chania would stay in Thika while Mwangi spend time at a five-bedroomed palatial residence in Mang’u whenever he was in the country. Mwangi had arrived in the country from Rwanda on September 13 and was to fly out just days before his death.

The deceased met with his ‘side chick’ Lucy Muthoni last year while she was looking for a rental house. He offered her a house next to his and soon after the two were already in a relationship. He later introduced Lucy as her second wife who was well-known to his extended family.

On the day that Mwangi was murdered, he had attended a family function alongside Lucy. Chania was also present.

“After the function, they(Mwangi and Lucy) headed back to Mang’u. Upon arrival, she parked the vehicle and left for her house while the deceased proceeded to his residence. The main suspect had arrived earlier and was in the house when the two arrived. That was the last time the deceased was seen alive,” a report by DCI revealed.

According to Lucy, they had agreed to go on the following day(Sunday) but he failed to call her at the agreed time. She asked two friends to call him on her behalf. They were informed by Chania that he had gone for a walk and left behind his phone.  She also told the police that he had left the home at 10 am

Investigations established that the deceased was murdered in his bedroom and his body was transported to Kieni.

“Pieces of blood-stained metal rods, blood-soaked bed sheets, stained curtains, and clothing were part of the exhibits that were recovered in the house by the sleuths based at the DCI National Forensic Laboratory.,” DCI said.

The employee who is believed to be her accomplice told the police on the day the deceased’s body was discovered that the mother of three had asked him to assist her in carrying luggage that was destined for the airport. The employee identified as Morris Kamau had been hired on the eve of the murder after the one who had served in the home for four years failed to return. John Mwangi had been sent to deposit some money and never showed up again. His whereabouts are yet to be established.

Witness accounts have further implicated Chania in the gruesome murder.

“Another witness who works at a tea collection point in Kiamunyaka remembered seeing a fast-moving pick-up truck being driven by a woman at around 3 pm, with a load protruding at the back. She flagged the vehicle down and asked the driver to slow down since her luggage seemed to be falling from the vehicle. But the vehicle sped towards Kieni forest where the body was discovered the following day wrapped in black polythene under a heap of cartons and empty bags of cement,” DCI said.

Chania was arrested on Thursday evening while driving the pickup.

“Preliminary examination of the truck revealed blood stains on the floor of the cabin, manila ropes, and, empty cement bags similar to those found covering the body at the scene.”
