The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga recently broke his silence on the case of Sirisia member of parliament John Waluke.
Raila demanded the release of the legislator while speaking during the burial of Kakamega governor Fernandez Barasa’s mother. According to Raila, there was no point of John Waluke being sent to jail at a time when the government has set free suspects such as CS Mithika Linturi, CS Aisha Jumwa amongst others.
The ODM leader made it clear that Waluke ought to be set free on bond then his civil case be thrown out or withdrawn. He argued that the man was paid for the services he offered and should not be sacrificed.
However, reasons have now emerged that Raila is pushing president Ruto so hard to release Waluke key amongst them to appeal to the Luhya voting bloc.
Raila is said to be keen on bringing out the issue of selective justice in Ruto’s administration clearly and evoke the emotions of the Mulembe nation since this is their son.
Aware that Musalia and Wetangula are very powerful in the current regime, the Azimio leader wants to portray the two as egocentric leaders who cannot fight for the rights of their own brother Major John Waluke.
Besides, Raila is targeting Wetangula (the third powerful in command) and will portray him as someone who can’t use his powerful position to save a man hailing from his county. According to the source, the opposition leader hopes to discredit the two leaders and be seen as the defender of the common man.
Most importantly, Raila is piling pressure on the government to set Waluke free because of the impending Bungoma senatorial by-election.
“Those around the former prime minister are doing all they can to make the Waluke case a major issue during the campaigns in preparation for the by-election.” Said a top source.
To further complicate the matters for the Kenya Kwanza government, Raila Odinga has reserved the parliamentary service commission post for general Waluke. This PSC is one of the most lucrative slots in the National Assembly and it’s still unclear whether he will be set free to take over his new role.
