Ida Odinga’s bodyguard Barack Onyango Oduor was shot dead in the wee hours of Friday morning.
Raila Odinga’s security team as well as the Kisumu county police commander Alphonse Kimathi confirmed the unfortunate incident.
As investigations into the matter continue, details have emerged on the circumstances surrounding the bodyguard’s death.
It is alleged that the incident occurred around 3.30 am at Riat area Kisumu West county when Onyango was heading home after a night out at Dondez Bar & Restaurant. He was in the company of a woman and a man.
The trio were confronted by the manager of Kisumu signature club. Details of their dispute however still remain unclear but a police officer privy to the investigations said that they had fought over the woman.
“Apparently, they were in a club and an altercation over the lady occurred. The manager fatally shot the officer, plus two others before fleeing,” the officer said.
The bodyguard was a police officer.
The manager, who is said to be a licensed fire arm holder, shot Onyango twice, on his head and leg, killing him on the spot. The gunman also injured the bodyguard’s companions who were rushed to the Aga Khan hospital. They are currently in a stable condition.
The shooter reportedly fled the scene soon after firing shots and left with the killer weapon.
