The man who posed as a GSU officer and accused Youtuber Eve Mungai of ‘using and dumping’ him has reportedly been arrested.
According to Eve’s lawyer, the matter was reported at Kileleshwa police station on Friday morning and he is facing charges on contravention of the computer misuse and cybercrime Act 2018 as well as impersonating a police officer.
“The accused, Mwendu Mailu, is facing charges of impersonation of a police officer, threatening my client and also publication of unprintable words and false video statements,” the lawyer said.
He further said that there is no record to prove that Mailu paid expenses for Eve when she started out her content creation journey.
“As the matter undergoes investigations under DCI, some of his electronics have been confiscated and they will undergo a forensic analysis awaiting plea taking on Monday,” he said.
He added that the viral video has had negative effects on Eve’s brand as some of her business partners have threatened to cut ties with her
On her side, Eve said that she decided to go the legal way because the false accusations against her had become too much yet she had struggled so much to build her brand.
The man in question offered an apology admitting that he was just chasing clout using the YouTuber’s name..
“I know you will understand. I am just a content creator like you. I did not do this with ill intentions but now I understand my actions could harm you and your brand and ruin your relationship with your partners. I am sorry Mungai Eve, I apologize to your partners and your man Trevor,” he said.
