DCI officers on Monday, November 20 intercepted a Toyota Noah ferrying bhang at the Sachangwan area of Bomet.
The vehicle was tracked by police on patrol and ordered to stop for a routine check.
However, the driver stopped and escaped leaving behind over 300 kilograms of bhang packed in eight bags.
It is not clear where the drugs were destined but DCI officers launched the manhunt for the suspect.
The seized illegal drugs are worth Ksh1 million. Police are exploring the leads to find the mastermind behind bhang business in the country.
“301Kg of bhang was seized today at Sachangwan area of Bomet after the vehicle ferrying the hard drug was intercepted by police on patrol. The lone occupant of the vehicle (driver) abandoned the cargo after a hot chase, leaving behind 8 sacks of the prohibited herb which were stashed in his KCZ 062S Toyota Noah,” DCI statement read in part.
“Anti-Narcotics detectives approximate a Sh1 million street value to the seizure, indicating that crucial leads to the source and the targeted market are being followed,” it added.
A few weeks ago, DCI also intercepted a Prado full of bhang in the Kisii area. The two incidences raised concerns with police now narrowing their operations to luxury vehicles which are now being used to traffic drugs in the country.
