Daniel Cheruyiot: Little Known Details Of William Ruto’s Biological Father

Date:

William Ruto is the current Deputy President of Kenya, a position he has held since 2013 after his union with President Kenyatta saw them defeat Raila Odinga.

Currently, he is seeking to be the fifth president of Kenya in the general elections that are just five days away.

He has however been in the political scene since 1992. Ruto was introduced to politics by Daniel Arap Moi, the second president of Kenya. The duo had interacted severally while he was still a student at the University of Nairobi where he participated in various activities such  Christian Union.

In 1992, he became the treasurer of the YK92 group that championed for the reelection of Moi and in 1997, he became the MP of Eldoret North Constituency, beating the incumbent Reuben Chesire, who was KANU’s regional chairman and a minister.

His journey however began back in Sambut village, Kamagut, Uasin Gishu County when he was born  to Daniel Cheruiyot and Sarah Cheruiyot in December 1966.

Until his death in April 2008, Cheruiyot had kept a very low profile and did not have any known political history during the time he was alive. At the time of his death, Ruto was Eldoret North MP. The old man left behind 7 children.

Sources indicate that Ruto’s father was a God-fearing man, a virtue he instilled in his all children. That explains why Ruto was a committed member of the CU at UoN and  choir member at African Inland church. His mother is also a well known Christian.

Aside from that, he was known to be a large scale maize farmer and would supply his produce to the National Cereals and Produce Board. He also reared cattle and would supply milk to KICC among other institutions.
