Police have launched a man hunt for a man identified as Samuel Muriithi for the fatal murder of his wife of 20 years who was a nurse.
Muriithi, a freelance photographer, is said to have murdered Lydia Nyaguthii in cold blood by stabbing her multiple times.
Nyaguthii’s life was cut short on Friday last week just moments after getting home from work. The couple stayed at Unjiru village in Mathira West, Nyeri county.
Speaking to a local daily, Muriithi’s neighbors revealed that the suspect looked disturbed on the fateful day. As usual however, he never opened up on his domestic issues with anyone.
“Muriithi, or Abbas, as we called him, was a close friend of mine for a long time, but it was very hard to understand him since he kept his domestic matters to himself. He looked disturbed, but he did not tell us what was happening,” Joseph Weru said.
His fellow photographer, David Gikandi, was shocked about the news since he had known him as a humble person.
The couple however met 20 years ago, when Nyaguthi was serving as a nurse at Tumutumu PCEA Hospital in Nyeri County.
Muriithi was taken to the hospital as a patient in a wheelchair with serious burns that resulted from domestic violence. He was taken after being scalded with hot water by his then wife.
The assault case was filed at the Karatina court but later dropped under unclear circumstances and the ex-wife was set free.
As a caring nurse, Nyaguthii attended to the patient(Muriithi) with love and care and within three months of their interaction, love blossomed between them. She played a key role in ensuring that he heals both physically and emotionally.
The two got married soon after Muriithi was discharged from hospital. Their relationship was a good one but along the way it turned sour.
The deceased nurse has been described as loving and a woman.
Her death is currently being investigated by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations and has been considered as homicide.
