Monday November 13, has been declared a public holiday by Interior CS Kithure Kindiki.
In a statement, Kindiki said that the above mentioned date was declared a special holiday following a Cabinet meeting held in Mombasa.
The move to gazette Monday November 13 a holiday is aimed at fostering patriotism among Kenyans through tree planting.
The CS however said that national examinations scheduled for the same date will proceed as planned.
“Following the decision of the Cabinet sitting in Mombasa on Friday November 3, 2023, the Government has declared a special holiday on Monday, November 13, 2023, during which the public across the Country shall be expected to plant trees as a patriotic contribution to the national efforts to save our Country from the devastating effects of Climate Change. National Examinations scheduled for that day shall proceed normally,” Kindiki stated.

The announcement has since attracted diverse opinions among Kenyans of all walks of life.
“Ati Tree Planting Holiday! What’s This Now?!” Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo couldn’t hide his surprise.
He went ahead to note that tree planting doesn’t need a holiday at all.
“Did Even Today! You Don’t Need A Holiday For That! This Is Unbelievable,” he responded to a netizen who told him to plant trees.
Other Kenyans have supported the move as others noted it lacked a good strategy.
“A good move let’s all embrace tree planting. Climate change is real. Let all act in time,” an X user said.
“Such an event requires adequate planning .The government should seedlings bank in every school,otherwise we might not achieve much from this,” read another comment.
