CS Fred Matiang’i Pronounces War On Drunk Administrators

Date:

Interior Cabinet secretary Fred Matiang’i has said that the government will not tolerate drunk county administrators, chiefs and their assistants.

Matiang’i has accused such administrators of being the reason to why the government has failed on war against substandard and counterfeit alcoholic drinks saying that they are embarrassment.

“I know this will be unpopular but we can’t live like this. Let us walk the talk. We need a review of the officers because they are embarrassing the service,” he said.

Speaking at the Kenya School of Government in Kabete on Thursday while commissioning 30-day Rapid Results Initiative on the elimination of substandard and counterfeit alcoholic drinks, Matiang’i said that such administrators  should be removed from office and taken rehabilitation.

“We will rehabilitate them when they are not our officers. We will not mind even if they are 500 or so they can go,” said Matiang’i.

According to the CS, drunk administrators are not able to carry out their responsibilities as required.

He further said that some of the officials take bribes and other forms of gifts and in doing so they compromise the war on illicit brew. He urged for decorum while warning that those who will be found engaging in such habits will be sacked without hesitation.

Aside from the administrators, Matiang’i also accused the county governments for licensing bars that operate even in residential areas hence making it difficult to completely do away with the menace.

“When you ask them why they do so they say it is their responsibility and they are chasing revenue. It’s wrong,” he said.

He also said that the political season aggravates abuse of illicit brew but hoped the exercise launched will address the menace.

“It is a challenge which is aggravated by political seasons. People think it is the time to drink,” he said
