Leadership squabbles are causing cracks within United Democratic Alliance (UDA) in Mombasa as party official favor Nyali MP Muhammad Ali overĀ former Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar.
A section of UDA leaders in Mombasa are accusing Omar of running a one-man show within the the party which has been carrying grassroot registration of members and leaders.
Dissatisfied UDA leaders have accused the former Mombasa Senator of hijacking the party and replacing it with Wiper party remnants.
The groupās spokesperson Osumba Oyoo claims Omar, who has declared an interest in the Mombasa governor seat on a UDA ticket, has sidelined them.
The members have now called on Omar to step down in favor of Muhammad Ali in Mombasa gubernatorial race.
Oyoo said the former Mombasa senator has in recent time lost direction and he is not putting the needs of the residents as first priority.
He also said Omar has been doing online campaigns instead of going to the ground to check on the needs and the problems the people of Mombasa are going through.
Omar decamped from Wiper Party and joined Ruto’s UDA in March 2020. He was elected Mombasa senator in 2013 on ODM ticket and in 2017 he unsuccessfully contestedĀ Mombasa gubernatorial seat on Wiper party.
Muhammad Ali has not declared interest to vie for Mombasa governor seat, the Nyali MP appears to be keen to recapture his seat on UDA ticket come 2022.
Ali won Nyali constituency seat as an independent candidate after he was forced out of ODM following a shambolic party nomination.
