A Nairobi court on Wednesday barred the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), and the media from commenting on the merits of the Babu Owino and DJ Evolve case.
Citizen Digital was the first to report that the court also directed that the matter be mentioned on August 11, 2020, to confirm whether the victim – Felix Orinda, alias DJ Evolve – has recorded a statement.
Babu Owino, through lawyer Cliff Ombeta, raised an objection accusing the DPP overstepping his mandate by allegedly inciting Embakasi East constituents to recall him as their MP.
Ombeta made his submissions before Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate Bernard Ochoi arguing that the said actions of the office of the DPP are “affecting the emotions of the accused person” telling the State prosecutor to “stick in his line.”
The controversial legislator recently attracted public anger following an interview with DJ Evolve aired by NTV in which the victim said that since undergoing surgery following the shooting incident he has been left struggling to talk and unable to do anything for himself.
The MP’s lawyers later served the media house with a demand letter terming the story as “scandalous and libelous” and aimed at pitting him against the public.
However, netizens are not happy with the direction of the courts and demand quick and speedy determination of the case with many believing that the courts are protecting the young legislator.

” Our courts are corrupt, why are they dilly-dallying with this baby and DJ Evolve issue, and yet there is incriminating evidence on the video. We as citizens want justice for DJ Evolve and we are not going to relent until justice is served and served promptly,” said Twitter user Hassan.
Babu Owino shot and wounded DJ Evolve at Kilimani’s B-Club in January this year.
