“Most people look at Babu’s political party as if his politics is what informed his actions,” Edwin Sifuna clarified.

In what was viewed as an attempt to clear the fog, the ODM Secretary-General rebuffed claimed that the Embakasi East MP was walking free after committing the alleged crime.

“He is not walking free. He has been charged and is out on bail,” said Mr. Sifuna.

Sifuna who seemed to be bothered by how people are blaming the defilement of Chapter six of the Kenyan Constitution that covers leadership and integrity. According to Sifuna, it was the failure of the ordinary citizens of emboldening leaders to hang on to public offices even after being found wanting.

Sifuna said Kenyans are the same people that defiled that and made sure it doesn’t matter what someone is accused of. He went ahead to give an example of whom they elected back in 2013 – President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy President William Ruto who were facing charges at the ICC.

“We need as a country; this is the broader conversation of BBI. What is our national ethos? How is it that if someone misconducts themselves in their private lives, they feel the shame that they cannot hold public office and resign. We need to get there as a country,” said Mr. Sifuna.
