As coronavirus virus continues to make its way into counties, Embu county is one of the counties to record their first case. The latest case with the county is of an inmate at Embu GK Prison.
According to Governor Martin Wambora, the inmate who tested positive of the new coronavirus has been isolated and will be transferred to Nairobi for treatment.
The Governor said the inmate is from Tharaka-Nithi County and was moved to the prison after being convicted of a capital offense.
“I would like to confirm that we are handling the first case of coronavirus within our county but the victim is from our neighboring county Tharaka-Nithi,” Governor Wambora said.
According to Governor Wambora, they have began contact tracing to establish whether the victim interacted with other inmates
The latest development comes just a day after CS Mutahi Kagwe announced the highest number of coronavirus in the country. On Thursday 28, Kagwe announced 147 new cases bring a total of 1618 of COVID-19 in the country.

From the latest report, Nairobi county is leading with the number of confirmed – 835 cases. Other counties with high numbers include Mombasa with 490 cases, Kajiado has 67 cases, and Kiambu with 39 patients.
Embu joins counties like Isiolo, Meru, Kisii, Bomet, Makueni, Trans-Nzoia among others with the lowest number confirmed cases of coronavirus.
