Confusion In Jubilee As Officials Threaten To Sue The Party For Dismissing Them

Date:

Confusion has embroiled the ruling party, Jubilee, after a number of its employees got sacked including directors and senior managers.

Jubilee’s acting Executive Director Wambui Gichuru sent letters of termination of services to about 70 employees.

The party’s Secretary General Raphael Tuju was however kept in the dark about the new development.

Those affected  have threatened to sue Jubilee if Tuju and President Uhuru Kenyatta do not reverse their sacking  which they termed a move to take over the party.

“If these instructions are coming from the party leader, then we want to tell him that his people are not executing them properly. And if it is not coming from him, we need him to also understand that there are some crooks who are fashioning the party to their own projects,” Joseph Mathai, a former TNA executive, director said.

Mathai is among the directors that were sacked.

“While we may the backroom politicians, we will not take this lying down. We will use all the means to see that this goes to the desk of the party leader and party leadership across the country. We are going to escalate this even to the court. There are ways that people are hired and ways that people are dismissed,” Mathai added.

In her letters to the employees, Gichuru said that her move was sanctioned by the Jubilee National Management Committee (NMC).

“Please, note that the NMC, in its meeting held on September 30, 2021, resolved to undertake a reorganization of the structure of the party. The exercise has necessitated the removal of certain job positions and consultancy services,” part of a letter addressed to one of the directors read.

“This is, therefore, to inform you that your consultancy services as regional director have been terminated with effect from October 8, 2021,” the letter further stated.

Tuju however termed the letters  a miscommunication and summoned the affected staffers to the party’s Pangani headquarters for redeployment on Wednesday.

“It’s not true. It was a miscommunication. We have asked them to come to the headquarters and the NMC will also meet them to explain what happened,” Tuju said.

Those who were affected include 11 out of 12 former executive directors of the parties that merged to form Jubilee

The parties were GNU, URP, TNA, UDF, NFK, RC, APK JAP, UPK, Tip Tip, Ford People and UPK.
