Fast-rising Kenyan Comedienne Elsa Majimbo has won the 2020 E! People’s Choice Awards putting Kenyan’s name on the international map.
Majimbo was nominated alongside Nigerian content creator Dimma Umeh, South Africa’s Sho Madjozi, Thuso Mbedu, Wian, Karl Kugelmann, and Zozi Tunzi as well as Ghanaian actress Lydia Forson under the ‘African Social Star 2020’ category.
The delighted 19-year-old comic sensation took to her social media handles and thanked her millions of fans for the support.
“I won the E! People’s Choice Award! I literally could not have done it without all of your amazing support. This year has been a whirlwind of discomfort and confusion for everybody, but for me it’s also brought with it a great lesson, that sometimes even the greatest obstacles in our path can be opportunities in disguise. A big thank you to the people at @eentertainment for recognizing game ????,” said an elated Majimbo.
Elsa Majimbo rose to popularity during the lockdown period following the Covid-19 pandemic after unleashing her comical skills and entertaining people worldwide. Her funny videos have become a global sensation and even has received recognition from International celebrities, including American rapper Snoop Dogg and Popular comedian Steve Harvey.

The 19-year-old’s fame has risen in the past few months, and even recently landed a gig with Rihanna’s Fenty. “My 19-year-old self literally got a chance to work with Fenty. I’m so proud! Thanking the Fenty fam they’ve been so amazing and Rihanna for this amazing brand!” wrote Elsa.
Despite her popularity, Majimbo claimed most Kenyans don’t find her funny as most of her jokes address global problems. “It’s funny that my comedy has garnered more fans outside my own country. The comedy scene here is quite different with most of the jokes in Swahili and about tribes, stereotypes. That’s not my comedy, mine is all about what’s happening in the world,” said Elsa.
