  • The department said the ongoing rains will continues in Western and Rift Valley highlands.
  • Afternoon showers and thunderstorms are likely to occur over several places throughout the forecast period.

The misty and wet weather that is being experienced in Western and Central parts of Kenya will continue for another one week, according to Meteorological Department.

The assistant director in charge of climate services at Met Department Dr. Richard Muita said the unusual steady rainfall, dense fog, and low temperatures that some parts of the country have experienced since last weekend may be a carryover from the June-August season.

Muita said the prevailing conditions are not entirely unexpected in September.

“In general, this is normal when we look at climate variability. Parts of the cold season of June-August can delay such that that season can end in September,” he said.

He said the current weather situation is likely to come to an end early next week.

On the other announcement, the department said the ongoing rains will continues in Western and Rift Valley highlands.

Counties in these regions that are experiencing the rains include Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, and Nyamira.

Other counties include Busia, Bungoma, Vihiga, Kakamega, Bomet, Kericho, Narok, Naruku, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, and Laikipia.

“Afternoon showers and thunderstorms are likely to occur over several places throughout the forecast period,” Met director Stella Aura said in a forecast that ends Sunday.

“Nights are likely to be partly cloudy but occasional showers may occur over a few places.”

She said the Central Kenya region including Nairobi, Nyandarua, Nyeri, Kiambu, Embu, Meru, and Tharaka counties will remain foggy and overcast but most places will not have rain.

“Mornings are likely to be cool and cloudy, with a possibility of rains over a few places giving way to sunny intervals,” Aura said.

Counties like Turkana, West Pokot, and Samburu will experience sunny mornings but a few areas may receive occasional rains in the cause of the week.

Afternoon shower and thunderstorms may occur in a few places throughout the week.

The other parts of the country will likely experience sunny during the day and partly cloudy at night.

But the coastal strip may occasionally experience morning and early afternoon showers.
