The Chania Boys headteacher on Friday, July 24, collapsed and died during an ongoing meeting at the school, in what sources say could be another COVID-19 case
Thika Sub-County police boss Beatrice Kiraguri confirmed that Macharia died shortly after complaining of breathing difficulties.
“I was called from my house by the bursar, I found the deceased inside his car. I drove him to Thika hospital where he was pronounced dead,” Simon Wahome, the deputy principal of the school stated.
Wahome disclosed that the deceased arrived at the school at around 8:30 am and held a two-hour meeting with board member and a contractor on the construction of the new dormitory.
On his part, Thika High School Principal and the Thika West Heads Association chairman Julius Muraya indicated that the late principal had been hospitalised at the Aga Khan Hospital three years ago when he suffered a heart attack and had been on medication.
“The deceased was not only a colleague but a close family friend, I am deeply saddened by his death,” he said.

Mr Muraya said Macharia was on medication and three years ago he suffered a heart attack and was hospitalised.
Macharia’s son, Mwangi Macharia, described his father as a loving and caring man who provided for his family.
Macharia’s body was moved to Kenyatta University mortuary
