Kirinyaga governor Anne Waiguru is among 241 political aspirants whose names were blacklisted by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission(EACC).
EACC is seeking to have the blacklisted individuals barred from vying for elective seats over integrity issues.
The list includes 2 presidential aspirants, 1 presidential running mate, 61 gubernatorial and deputy gubernatorial hopefuls, 19 Women rep hopefuls, 58 MP candidates and 94 others who are eyeing MCA seats.
Waiguru was flagged over the irregular payment of imprests which was subject to her impeachment proceedings in 2020 and Kshs52 million corruption allegations. Both cases are awaiting action from the Director of public prosecution.
Speaking about her being on the blacklist, Waiguru claimed that EACC was only after her because she moved to UDA.
The governor said that the commission was being controlled by top government officials based at Harambee House to frustrate her for changing parties.
“Were it not for constitutional safeguards that separate investigations, prosecution, and adjudication, @EACCKenyaon behalf of their Harambee House masters would have have hanged some of us for moving to@UDAKenya on the basis of rumor, frivolous allegations & cooked stories without the need of a trial.
“Fortunately culpability under our law is determined on the basis of evidence & not by them. Trying to manage electoral issues through institutional State capture won’t cut. Not in this Kenya!” Waiguru said in a tweet.
KOT however did not spare her reminding her that she is not innocent of whatever she is being accused of as some brought up the NYS scandal that saw Kshs791 million public funds get looted while she was the devolution and planning Cabinet Secretary.
“No one steals for the community.Stop the diversion and just carry your cross,” Fredrick Were responded to Waiguru’s post.
“When they came for you, you went to cry at capital hill to seek refuge. Asante ya punda ni mateke kweli,” read another comment.
“Punguza kisungu. You threw kabura under the bus and here you are trying to cleanse yourself. Or is it rm 305 cleansing. How do you feel when you know that an innocent hairdresser is being dragged in courts and you are using the corrupt proceeds to get power?” another netizen remarked.
Waiguru is seeking the Kirinyaga gubernatorial seat on a UDA ticket for a second term. She was first elected on a jubilee ticket in 2017.
