Caroline Kangogo Memorial Service Elicits Bitter Sweet Memories

Date:

A memorial service for disgraced policewoman Constable Caroline Kangogo was held at her parents’ home 40 days after her burial.

Kangogo captured the headlines for the alleged murder of two men – her colleague Constable John Ogweno and businessman Peter Njiru Ndwiga.

She shot dead Ogweno on July 5th at Nakuru Police Station and the following day on July 6th she also shot dead Ndwiga at Dedamax Kimbo hotel in Kiambu county.

Kagongo was on the run for about two weeks before her lifeless body was discovered in a bathroom at her parents’ home on July 16th.

The late Kangogo was laid to rest on July 29th 2021 in a low key burial that was shunned by the National Police Service.

There was no gunfire salute and no police officer attended in uniform as Kangogo was buried at her parents’ Nyawa village home in Elgeyo Marakwet county.

Tradition in the police service would require a 21 gunfire salute, but because of circumstances of her death, Kangogo was denied the honors.

A memorial service for Kangogo was held at her parents’ Nyawa home in Keiyo north 40 days after her burial and was presided over by Tambach Catholic church parish.

Kangogo’s father Barnabas and mother Leah Korir said that they organized the event in remembrance of their daughter as a sign of love for their first born girl.

“We have no words to describe how we loved and cared for our daughter. It was a sad moment in our lives on the fateful day we stumbled on her body in the bathroom outside our main house,” Korir said.

Kangogo’s father said that his daughter was to be blamed for taking her own life citing that she was under stress and depression. He further added that if Kangogo could have received guiding and counseling earlier she would be alive.
