Bomet county Governor Hillary Barchok on Thursday issued an apology to deputy president William Samoei Ruto following the Monday 10th chaotic scenes.
Apparently, Ruto was caught up in a melee after two opposing supporters of former Bomet governor Mr. Isaac Ruto and the incumbent Hillary Barchok went head to head with each other.
According to local reports, supporters of Isaac Ruto took offense after Hillary Barchok allegedly hired goons to block them from accessing the governor’s office. The deputy president was supposed to meet the local leaders at the office when the disagreements arose.
“On behalf of the people of Bomet, I apologize to the Deputy President for the embarrassment we exposed him to. This relates to the foolish competition we are having (with Isaac Ruto). Our people are not happy and some have even lined up demonstrations as a message to us,” said Hillary Barchok.
The Bomet governor further claimed that armed youths/goons had been sent to the Green Stadium to disrupt the meeting but they did not succeed since the attendees were determined to maintain peace.
“We are a peace-loving county. We haven’t had any incidences and our commitment as a county government is to always maintain peace. I want to thank the people of Bomet who also resolved not to retaliate any attacks,” he stated.
Prior to Ruto’s Bomet tour, supporters of governor Hillary Barchok and Issac Ruto were involved in push and pulls with regards to who ought to organize, control and speak at the political rally.
So intense was the situation that Mr. Barchok, who was the master of ceremony, was literally booed, a sign that Isaac Ruto was still the preferred candidate in the region.
As a result, deputy president William Ruto was forced to take full charge of the rally just to make sure that nothing went wrong.
