It is a taboo in the African community to have a sexual relationship with your relative leave alone having children but that is what happened to a woman identified as Domitila Mukamange.
Domitila did not only have a sexual relationship with her biological brother but also got children with him according to a report filed by Afrimax.
This happened because of the loss of their parents while they were still young. Both their parents died when Domitila was still a toddler. She doesn’t even have a slightest clue of their physical appearance.
After their loss, the mother of four was separated with her siblings and they were raised by different families.
Domitila however did not get access to education but when she became of age, she went to the city looking for a job so that she could earn a living and that is where she got to meet her brother.
They did not know each other but they became friends and one thing led to the other. Soon, the two moved in together and were living as husband and wife.
Later, their family grew and were blessed with four children. After that, they invited some relatives over to their place only for them to discover that the couple were siblings.
“I was confused and started hiding from people,” Domitila said.
After the discovery, life took a sharp turn. They faced stigma and people would refer to them as cowards and insult them. Many however understood why they produced children with certain abnormalities.
The father reached a point that he stopped fulfilling his responsibilities. Domitila decided to leave her brother to find her inner peace, thus putting herself in a more complicated situation.
Life as a single mother was not easy considering that she had no permanent job to sustain the needs of her family. They literally had no roof on their heads since the house they were living in would have collapsed any moment. That actually happened during the rainy season leaving them homeless.
They however found a well wisher who provided them with a roof over their heads as they sort for means to rent a house.
