Police are investigating the mysterious death of a Kirinyaga tycoon after claims that he set himself on fire.
The bizarre incident occurred 500 metres from his compound at Mbiri Trading Centre in Gichugu constituency.
Gichugu deputy police boss Patrick Nyaanga said they were informed about the incident by the deceased’s uncle.
“He told us Lawrence Muchiri’s body was lying with suicidal notes 500 metres away,” Nyaanga said.
Shocked residents of Mbiri however said they could not believe Muchiri could have killed himself.
“He is the owner of the agrovet and the supermarket over here and several horticulture farms in kirinyaga county,” one Peter Kimotho said.
