Bhang Worth Ksh.4.5 Million Burnt In Isiolo

Date:

Police in Isiolo County on Tuesday burnt over 50 kilograms of bhang with a street value of Ksh4.5 million

The illegal consignment was nabbed by the authorities three years ago but the case was only recently concluded and the suspect who owned the consignment was found guilty and jailed for 15 years.

The huge consignment was set on fire in a brief ceremony that was witnessed by Isiolo Law Courts Chief Magistrate Samuel Mingai, Officials from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, County Commissioner Herman Shambi and County Police Commander Joesph Kigen.

According to the County Commissioner, Mr.Shambi destroying the hang in front of the cameras was aimed at silencing the doubting Thomases who had alleged that the illegal drugs would eventually find their way back into the streets and the drug peddlers.

Mr. Shambi assured the public that other consignments confiscated by the police recently will also be destroyed similarly once the continuing court cases are put to an end.

The county of Isiolo has in the past attracted attention as far as the war against illegal drugs is concerned after numerous cases where vehicles ferrying hang from the county to other parts of the country were nabbed.

A few weeks ago, the national government sent an elite squad of anti-narcotics and anti-terror police to Isiolo to deal with drug trafficking and recruitment in the region.
