Betty Kyallo shockingly quits Uhuru-owned K24 TV

Betty Kyallo, the K24 news anchor, on Saturday night, May 30, announced that she was leaving the station after hosting her popular Weekend With Betty show.

“I really appreciate you all. It is now time for me to say goodbye here on K24 TV. Thank you so much for all the support, I appreciate you, God bless you and I love you,” she stated after her last show at K24.

Before the start of the show, she had sent out a cryptic message on her Instagram account that kept her fans guessing.

“Hello from the other side, not sure about tomorrow so watch today,” reads her statement in part.
The celebrated media personality joined K24 on September 20, 2018, a couple of months after she made a surprise exit from KTN.

She joined the Mediamax owned station at a time when they had lost several staffers including prime time news anchor Richard Kagoe, to BBC and Michelle Morgan who resigned just a week before Betty joined, citing a need to pursue personal interests as her reason for quitting.

Betty won the 2017 Social Media Awards (SOMA) for the Media Personality of The Year, she was also voted as the Journalist of the Year by Kenyans on Twitter a years later.

The sassy anchor trumped opposition from KTN News reporter Timothy Otieno, The Star Digital Editor Oliver Mathenge and Marvin Gakuyi to emerge the winner in the K0T 2018 Awards.

She took to her Instagram page to celebrate the good news at the time.

“We won again! Thank you to all my people on Twitter who voted for me as Journalist Of the Year.

“Much gratitude to all of you beloved! And of course much respect to all the other worthy contenders Timothy Otieno, Oliver Mathenge and digital journalist Marvin Gakunyi. I salute you. Thanks, Twitter!” she stated.

The bubbly news presenter recently (May 17) launched her own YouTube channel, which has since garnered over 29.7K subscribers.

“Finally it’s here. My YouTube channel. First Video on Tuesday! Super excited to share my highs and lows with you, my people! Love BK,” she announced following her launch.

In her farewell message, she hinted at using her channel for her next project.

“If we meet again, great. If not, you know how you can find me on all my social media platforms, Facebook, Instagram and of course my YouTube channel. I’m going to be doing great things there,” she announced.
The celebrated media powerhouse is a Mum, a Journalist, a Corporate MC, and a Brand Influencer.

On May 19, she shared the first installment of her highly anticipated web series known as Betty Kyallo Lately.
The 27-minute production adopted a ‘day in the life’ format, taking fans behind the scenes as it depicted a regular day in the presenter’s life.

Her departure comes a month after Mediamax Network Limited announced a pay-cut of between 20% and 50 % of all its staff across its broadcasting, online and print divisions to cushion the company from the disruptive effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.
