Political analyst Herman Manyora has stated that deputy president William Samoei Ruto is the biggest loser after the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) was thrown out by the court of appeal.
While speaking at Citizen TV, Herman Manyora revealed that William Ruto and his Tangatanga brigade have lost an important political narrative and that they will look very funny at the podium if they keep referring to BBI which has officially been buried.
Manyora added that if the appeal was allowed, then Raila would have been the biggest loser because the deputy president could have continued with the propaganda of asking Kenyans to choose between economy and amending the constitution.
Prof Manyora also stated that even if the BBI was allowed, it would not help Raila Odinga because a referendum would not have been possible before the August 9th general elections.
With regards to its implementation later, the political analyst averred that neither William Ruto nor Raila Odinga would implement the BBI after taking power since none of them would wish to divide power and remain powerless.
The Supreme Court on Thursday dismissed the plans proposed by President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga to amend the Constitution through the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).
The judges ruled that the president had acted unlawfully when spearheading the reforms, which ought to have been led by citizens as opposed to the sitting head of state.
“He cannot run with the hare and hunt with the hounds. The President as a matter of fact commenced and spearheaded the process from its inception and only passed on the baton to the two co-chairpersons when it was too late in the day and beyond recall.” said William Ouko, one of the judges.
On their side, justice Njoki Ndung’u, in a dissenting opinion, argued there was nothing wrong with president Uhuru initiating the process of amending the law while Isaac Lenaola argued that there was no evidence the president initiated the BBI move.
