Barack Obama Helps Joe Biden Raise USD11m In An Online Fundraiser

Date:

Former US President Barack Obama helped raise USD 11 million for former Deputy President Joe Biden during a Tuesday virtual fundraiser. Obama described the fundraiser as a great awakening among Americans that could help send Donald Trump home in November election.

The former president proved a major draw, gathering a large number of audience and raising over USD11 million and according to Biden press secretary TJ Ducklo, the fundraiser was the most successful event of the entire campaign.

Ducklo said, of the total amount raised, USD7.6m come from 175,000 grassroots donors who continued to power Biden’s campaign every day.

First Appearance

Obama’s split-screen appearance with Joe Biden was his first with the Democratic presidential candidate since he endorsed him in mid-April.

“I am here to say the help is on the way if we do the work because there’s nobody I trust more to be able to heal this country and get back on track than my dear friend Joe Biden.

What makes me optimistic is the fact that there is a great awakening going on around the country, particularly among younger people” who are “fed up with the shambolic, disorganized, mean-spirited approach to governance that we’ve seen over the last couple of years,” Obama said.

WEARY OF TRUMP

Biden supported his former boss on the need for political change in America. He also suggested world leaders have become weary of Donald Trump.

“They’re desperately, desperately waiting for American leadership,” Biden said.

Since the outbreak of coronavirus, Biden has not held any in-person campaign rallies.

He has opted to remain in his Delaware home, using television interviews, advertisements, or social media to attack Donald Trump.

DISREGARDED MEASURES

President Trump has however disregarded his government directives and held several in-person campaigns, including a weekend rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Trump followed up the rally with an event in Phoenix on Tuesday. The two locations the president has held campaigns are now experiencing spikes in new coronavirus cases.

The online event organized by Biden confirmed the strong support base of Obama still enjoys in the country, and the campaign said “highlights the power of the grassroots movement” as it launches a more intense momentum of campaigning.

Early this year, Joe Biden raised nearly USD81 million, 10 percent more than Donald Trump, although the president has more cash at his disposal for campaign.
