Residents of Kiamugumo village in Ngariama ward , Kirinyaga were left in shock following an incident where by the assistant chief was murdered by his wife.
According to Gichugu sub-county DCI boss Millicent Ochuka, the wife, 35-year old Jedida Wanja used a kitchen knife to stab her husband Dennis Magu following a family dispute that is yet to be established on Wednesday night at 10pm.
“The suspect said the incident happened after her husband asked for airtime but I cannot believe she can kill him over airtime ‘ Ochuka told the media.Â
The deceased happens to be a son of Kirinyaga nominated MCA Rose Njeru and had just secured the job six months ago.
Njeru said that they had planned to celebrate this festive season as a family. The incident occurred just after the family prayer session had been concluded.
“We had just prayed with the family as we were going to sleep but I was shocked to be called by my son’s wife after ten minutes telling me she had killed her husband by ‘mistake’ with a kitchen knife,’ the MCA said.
Local leaders who arrived at the scene expressed concern over the rising cases of fatal domestic violence in Gichugu constituency.
“We have not buried five family members who were killed at Kathata village by Paul Murage 35 who is currently at Kerugoya GK Prison after killing his wife and four children,” Ngiriama Ward MCA Erastus Ireri said.
The assistant Chief’s body was transferred to Kibugi funeral home Kutus waiting for postmortem.
The suspect is being held at the Kianyaga police station.
On the other hand Peter Murage will remain in remand until January 24, 2022 where he is expected to take a plea on the murder of his wife and their four children.
Murage who appeared virtually before Justice Richard Mwongo on Wednesday December 15 did not have a legal representative for the plea-taking.
Murage will now be provided a lawyer by the state. State prosecutor Vincent Mamba however said that his mental assessment report indicated that he was fit to stand trial.
Murage brutally murdered his wife and children on November 29 by hacking them to death.
