Months before the 2022 general election campaigns began, William Ruto, who was then the deputy president was among the many politicians who were making rounds in the country to drum support for their respective team.
On March 18, he took his troops to campaign in Uhuru Kenyatta’s backyard in Gatundu and even and further proceeded to Kenyatta’s rural home village in Ichaweri.
While in Mutomo area, the second in command gave the locals some information that they should take to president Kenyatta who is their neighbor.
“People of Mutomo, will you accept me to send you to my friend Uhuru Kenyatta? You are his neighbors, tell him that the guy called William Ruto visited us .
“You have heard my friend Uhuru Kenyatta saying that he wants to support the Kitendawili guy, tell him that Ruto has said that even if he has decided to help the Kitendawili person I am humbly requesting him not to use the same knife I used to help him win to cut my legs. Please tell him that the Ruto that he has planned for is the same one he talked with here in Gatundu and even Mama Ngina prayed for us, remind him not to hurt him,” Ruto said.
He asked them to remind the head of state that he was the only one who stood by him when no one else wanted to help him.
“You should also tell him that Ruto stood with him when everybody else had deserted him and therefore he should not hurt him. Will you get him the information?” the second in command asked
He further told Mutomo residents to tell Uhuru that he should step aside and let him deal with ODM leader Raila Odinga.
“Even if he does not want to help me, let him leave the Kitendawili old man for me. Am ready to fight with him. He should step aside, so that I finish the Kitendawili person,” Ruto said.
