It has been months now since Ayah Mithika Lundt’s parents managed to raise millions to get the world’s most expensive drug for her treatment.
Ayah was diagnosed with a rare condition known as Spinal Muscular Atrophy(SMA) and she had to get the drug before she turned 2 years, to save her life.
Children suffering from the condition can not walk or stand unaided, they have breathing and swallowing difficulties and most of those children don’t survive past early childhood.
The young girl was to undergo a gene therapy known as Zolgensma, at a cost of Kshs270 million.Â
Her parents, Mary Mithika, a Kenyan and her father Frank Lundt, a Danish, called upon well-wishers to help save their daughter and lucky enough their wishes were granted.
On August 31 2021, the couple announced that they had managed to hit their target after 33 weeks of fundraising.Â
Ayah went ahead and began her treatment in San Antonio, USÂ a week later. So far the treatment worked and Ayah is able to move and pronounce some words.
