Nakuru County governor Lee Kinyanjui has received a backlash after being installed as a Luo elder in a ceremony that took place on Tuesday October 5.
Kinyanjui’s installation ceremony was conducted by a section of members of the larger Luo Council of Elders at his Nakuru City office.
This comes after the governor’s recent proclamation of his unwavering support to ODM Leader Raila Odinga who is perceived as a Luo community Kingpin.
Facebook users however could not keep calm about news of the jubilee governor being an elder in a community he does not belong to.
“Can politicians stop misusing other communities’ cultures? Some of them,(infact most) are not recognized elders in their own communities,” one, Muchemi Cabueh dropped his comment.
Edward Ireri Nduma hilariously said, “Sasa amerudi kuwa kipii.”
“Another attention seeker spotted. Many more are on way coming!” Mathia Mtekwa remarked.
Another netizen wrote that, “See how confused our leaders are. How on earth can he become a LUO ELDER surely? Can he perform rituals as an elder? Hata wapite wapi tunawaona Sana.”
“It was not wise move. Political alignments are yet to take shape. But maybe he has a hidden card,” another one said.
Recently Kinyanjui declared publicly that he will campaign and vote for Raila in the coming general elections while at funeral ceremony.
“I have voted five or six times and in all those years, I have never voted for Raila Odinga. In the coming year, I see that changing. I sat down and realized that when Jubilee was in trouble, Raila was the only person who came to the rescue,” he said.
Kinyanjui and several other Mt. Kenya leaders have been accompanying Raila in his tours around the country.
He became the second governor of Nakuru county in 2017 after trouncing Kinuthia Mbugua in Jubilee party Primaries.
