27-year-old athlete Edith Muthoni was brutally killed by her boyfriend just hours after reports about Agnes Tirop’s death.
Edith Muthoni was murdered on Tuesday evening October 12th – just a day before Agnes Tirop was also killed by her husband.
Tirop’s lifeless body was found in her house in Iten town, Elgeyo Marakwet County on Wednesday October 13th. She was brutally murdered by her husband Emmanuel Ibrahim Kipleting who fled after committing the heinous act.
Just like Tirop, Edith Muthoni was also killed by her boyfriend Kennedy Nyamu following a domestic dispute at their home in Kianjege East Village in Kerugoya, Kirinyaga county.
Nyamu attacked Edith with a machete inflicting a deep cut on the back of her head causing her to bleed profusely.
Edith’s sister Jane Nyawira King’uru said that Nyamu attacked her sibling after she picked his phone to go through its contents.
The deceased was rushed to Kerugoya County Referral Hospital while in critical condition. She died while receiving treatment.
According to Kerugoya referral hospital manager Norman Gitari, the deceased was brought to the hospital in critical condition by a well wisher. His medical staff tried in vain to save her life, prompting the hospital manager to inform our officers based at Kerugoya police station.
Investigations were immediately instituted leading to the arrest of the deceased’s boyfriend as the key suspect into the murder most foul.
Kennedy Nyamu was seized by Kirinyaga based detectives on Wednesday night after police raided his hideout.
Nyamu led detectives to the location of the murder at Kianjege village, where they spent the better part of the night combing the scene for more clues into the heinous crime.
The suspect is currently in custody assisting detectives with investigations, before being arraigned in court to answer to his crimes.
Edith Muthoni was a short distance runner with personal best of 26.30 seconds in 200m and 55.98 seconds in 400m.
