Angry Crowd Chases Away Evans Kidero As He Campaigns In Homa Bay (Video)

Date:

Former Nairobi Governor Dr Evans Kidero was forced to flee for dear life after an irate crowd disrupted his campaign in Homa Bay.

Kidero seeks to be the first politician to be governor of two different counties in his political career, but it seems it won’t be possible.

The former Nairobi governor has been in the political cold ever since he lost his re-election bid to Mike Sonko in 2017 general election.

Sonko was declared winner with 869,050 votes against Kidero’s 695,770  – he unsuccessfully changed the election results in court.

Nairobi’s first governor is trying to make a political comeback as has declared interest to vie for Homa Bay gubernatorial seat in 2022.

However, Kidero remains unpopular with locals in Homa Bay as evident by a series of heckling that have occasioned his rallies.

The former Nairobi governor has been accorded hostile reception in Homa Bay at least on two separate occasions.

The most recent incident happened a day ago when an angry crowd heckled and chased away Kidero while campaign in Homa Bay.

Video that captured the unfortunate event shows Kidero seated in his Land Rover Defender as the crowd shouted “go back to Nairobi” in Luo language as they approached his convoy.

The former Nairobi governor had no option but to leave hastily before the situation could get out of hand.

Kidero remains very unpopular maybe because of his corruption record that tainted his term in office as Nairobi governor.

Homa Bay gubernatorial race has attracted several heavyweights including ODM Chairman and Suba South MP John Mbadi, former Kasipul MP Oyugi Magwanga, Homa Bay Woman Rep Gladys Wanga.

Other candidates include businessman Louis Ogingo, Kuppet secretary general Akelo Misori, businessman Jared Kiasa, county secretary Isaiah Ogwe and Finance executive Nicholas K’Oriko.

Incumbent governor Cyprian Awiti is serving his second and last term in office.
