Amani National Congress (ANC) has distanced itself from Deputy President William Ruto’s rally held at Eldoret Sports Ground.
This is after Kakamega senator Cleophas Malala showed up for the rally dressed in ANC’s full attire.
In a statement that was shared on social media, ANC secretary General Simon K. Gakuru said the party had not sent any representative to the function.
“The ANC party would like to disassociate itself with the activities taking place at Eldoret Sports Club Grounds. ANC has not sent anybody to represent either the party or the Party Leader in the said function. The official party position should only come from P L or the SG,” Gakuru said.
Speaking during the event, Malala said that he had attended the rally on permission from ANC party leader Musalia Mudavadi.
“I have come here on my party leader Musalia Mudavadi’s word,” Malala said.
He went on to say that the party will be holding its National Delegates Convention on January 23, where Mudavadi will be endorsed as the party’s flagbearer ahead of the August polls.
“ANC is going to have its NDC on January 23, the party is going to make Musalia Mudavadi the flag bearer and also give him powers to find friends across the country.
“ANC party might be part of OKA, but we must court political allies beyond One Kenya Alliance. So will it be wrong if Mudavadi comes to the Rift Valley to seek political allies and by good luck or bad luck gets into an agreement with Ruto?” he said as the crowd cheered him.
