MPs are set to lose millions of shillings after the revision of parliamentary sittings to one from the usual two days a week.
With the current revision, the legislatures will be paid Sh10,000 for the two sessions that will be held every Thursday starting this week down from Sh60,000 they used to earn from the six sitting on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursdays.
Speaker of the National Assembly Justin Muturi last week directed MPs would only have plenary sitting on Thursday morning and afternoon.
Normally the business of the House is transacted on Tuesdays and Thursdays afternoon and the entire day of Wednesdays.
The Speaker has however cut the number of sitting to two days to curb the spread of coronavirus after several MP tested positive of the virus.
The National Assembly will this afternoon reconvene after a 26-day recess amid a tight sitting schedule.
Under the new guidelines, the House will have morning and afternoon sitting on Thursday starting at 10 am and 2.30 pm respectively. Thereafter both Tuesday and Thursday sitting shall stand suspended.
