The United States of America could soon start a vaccination process that will incorporate children at the age of 5-11, if the vaccination process gets a nod by Federal Regulatory Health Agencies.
According to a report from the White House, there has been a surge in Covid-19 infections among children under that age bracket in the United States of late – hence putting at risk lives of people living around them and their handlers.
“We are ready. We have the supply. We are working with the State to set up convenient locations for parents and kids to get vaccinated, including pediatricians’ offices and community sites,” said Jeffrey Zients, White House COvid-19 response coordinator.
Speaking to the United States Food and Drug Administration, the companies that are behind the manufacturing of the vaccine have implored the government to allow kids to also take a shot.
There has not been a vaccination exercise for children in the United States ever since the corona pandemic cases were reported in the country. This means that this is going to be the first time the exercise is going to be carried out.
Two companies that are producing the vaccine which is now slated for the minors between the ages of 5-11 are Pfizer Inc. (PFE.N) and BioN Tech SE. (This group is not currently allowed to take any shot).
However, the United States Food and Drug Administration is in advanced discussion with the two companies on the way forward – on rolling out the vaccination programme that is targeting around 28 million children with the first jab.
“With cases in children in the United States continuing to be at high level, this submission is an important step in our ongoing efforts against Covid-19,” Pfizer wrote on Twitter.
With a recently-undertaken piloting programme, Pfizer and BioN Tech vaccine are said to be boosting immunity in the children of that age bracket.
The piloting program was done on the children of that age bracket totaling top 2,268 in number. This time, the vaccination could possibly start as early as November.
