The Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) has approved the murder and assault charges leveled against Malindi Member of Parliament Aisha Jumwa over the killing of a man and injury of several other people during the Ganda Ward by-elections in 2019.
The Mombasa Regional DPP, Alloys Kemo gave a green light over the charges against the MP together with her aide Geoffrey Okuto Otieno.
Sources privy to the matter say that the two are now set to undergo mental assessment next Wednesday before being charged in a court of law.
The victim was shot during a scuffle that erupted between rival Orange Democratic (ODM) party supporters in Ganda Ward in Malindi, Kilifi County, in October 2019.

The incident occurred after Jumwa allegedly stormed a meeting of ODM agents at a house belonging to Reuben Katana, the ODM candidate and subsequent winner of the by-election.
Jumwa is said to have demanded to inquire why such a meeting would be held at night after the campaign period had come to an end.
However, ODM party officials maintained that the meeting was meant for training agents.
The Malindi Member of Parliament was on October 16, 2019, arrested at her home in Kakuyuni, Malindi, over the incident before later being released.
