Agony As Early Morning Earthquake Hits Pakistan, Claiming Lives And Trail Of Destruction

Date:

An earthquake has hit southern part of Pakistan this morning, claiming many lives and injuries. The earthquake, with a magnitude of 5.7 Richter scale, struck the southern part of the Asian country and claimed at least 20 lives and leaving at least 200 people injured.

In a statement to press by Disaster Management Authority Director, General Nasser Nasir on Thursday, the early morning catastrophe affected mainly women and children who were asleep.

There were videos and pictures that were captured by people who witnessed the incident while it was happening.

The videos are showing as buildings were shaking and oscillating in responding to the shakings of the earth.

According to news agencies, Reuters, there were also government buildings that were majorly affected by the early morning earth tremor.

“More than 100 mud houses collapsed and a large number were damaged, including government buildings. Hundreds of people were rendered homeless,” said Sohail Anwar, who is the deputy Commissioner in the city of Harnai, Pakistan.

According to the United States Geological Survey, the Pakistan earthquake was relatively shallow, measuring it at 12 miles, with its epicenter being at 62 miles East of Quetta.

Today’s incident brings to memory the 1935 earthquake that hit the South Asian country. That was the deadliest earthquake that has been recorded in the history of the country.

In that year, between 30,000 and 60,000 people were feared dead due to the earthquake. It was the deadliest of all as it was measured at 7.7 Richter scale.

In today’s earthquake, the injured people have been taken to various hospitals for treatment, as the government has taken some remedial measures to contain the conditions of those who have been affected due to the demolitions of their residential areas.
