List Of Senate Committee Members To Help Solve The Revenue Formula

Date:

In a move to put an end to the controversial third criteria of sharing revenue, senators have agreed to step up their game and form a committee that will solve the stalemate.

In a debate that went till late night on Monday, the lawmakers resolved to come up with a 12-member committee to look into the matter that has gripped the Senate for some time now.

This came up after the house had realized that it had been polarised.

“This committee has no color and does not belong to any side,” minority leader James Orengo said, announcing to the House that there was hope for consensus.

The committee will be chaired by Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula and his Nairobi counterpart Johnson Sakaja.

The other members of the committee include:

  • Stewart Madzayo
  • Kipchumba Murkomen
  • Mutula Kilonzo Jr
  • Susan Kihika
  • Samson Cherargei
  • Moses Kajwang
  • John Kinyua
  • Ledama ole Kina
  • Anue Loitiptip.

The committee will then explore all avenues and prepare a report that will be submitted to the Speaker’s Kamukunji – an informal meeting of the legislators which is always chaired by the Speaker.

The committee was ordered to have its first meeting on Today to develop its work plan.

The committee will also decide the stakeholders to consult, including the Commission on Revenue Allocation (CRA).

“I hope that with this arrangement, we can make progress and have consensus,” said Siaya Senator James Orengo.
